New French recruit of the company 𓂀

Hello everyone !

Welcome to the Horses and Hieroglyphs blog.

First of all I'll introduce myself ! I am Fanny Lasserre, a 20 years old French student in tourism at the University of Toulon, France. As part of my studies, I have a 3 months internship to do.

Since I was a little girl, I have been passionate about horse riding and travelling. One of the countries that immediately attracted me more than the others is Egypt. This is due to its exceptional natural heritage, its history and its culture. I seized this opportunity to mix my two passions, that's why I chose the company Horses and Hieroglyphs to realize my internship.

It was important for me to choose a company with values that correspond to me, to get along with the team. Having exchanged a lot with Annmarie Wiehenstroer, co-director of the company, it convinced me to work with them. Because it is true that going to work on the other side of the world is a challenge that is not necessarily easy, with the difference in culture, traditions, language and habits, you can quickly feel helpless and lost. But knowing that I would be well surrounded reassured me a lot.

Once I got there, all my fears went away. I was welcomed by Ganun, Annmarie's husband and also co-director of Horses and Hieroglyphs. I was able to meet Ganun's family and the staff of Horses and Hieroglyphs. All these people integrated me in the best possible way, making me feel at home. What impressed me is that all these people are pure, simple and have a heart of gold. I could not have hoped for a better welcome.

Then, I was also able to get to know the horses and learn more about their history. They are all horses rescued from abuse. Most of them come from Cairo or Luxor where they were used for tourist purposes, working for hours in the heat without stopping, without water, without food. I think it is wonderful that Horses and Hieroglyphs can offer them a second life where the horses live together, are happy and healthy.

And all the more so as nowadays it is difficult to find honest companies, which do not overexploit their animals, and this is all the more rare in Egypt ! I think that this is what makes the strength and the difference of the company, it has values and sticks to them.

As far as my work within the company is concerned, my main task is to promote the company as much as possible. Because it is only one year old, it does not have a lot of visibility yet, especially at the international level. So I promote it through social networks (Facebook, Instagram and Tiktok), create physical content like flyers to put in partner hotels, create a blog, write and publish various articles to give future visitors the desire to come to Horses and Hieroglyphs, measure customer satisfaction and see what improvements we could propose, canvassing major platforms like AirBnB, le Guide du Routard, Lonely Planet to reach many people. Then I am also in charge of welcoming the clients and accompanying them on their walks.

I think that this experience will bring me a lot from a professional and personal point of view. First of all, I will be able to apply my knowledge, take initiatives, to improve my professional skills. And from a human point of view, I will have the chance to live 3 months in a country that is totally foreign to me, in a culture that is different from mine. Having to adapt to the way of life of the country and its traditions will, I am sure, make me evolve or change my vision of the world and of life. It is an experience that I am sure will mark me for life, in a good way.

I will come back to tell you about my experience at the end of my stay, so stay tuned !

Does it make you want to live a similar experience ? Then don't hesitate to come and spend several days with Horses and Hieroglyphs with the 4 formulas of stays of several days going from 4 to 12 days. We are waiting for you !

Thank you for reading !

I'll see you soon in other posts.
