Hi everyone !
Today I wanted to talk about an important subject that is near and dear to our hearts with the Horses & Hieroglyphs team.
Warning, some images may shock.
As you surely know, animal abuse is present all over the world and especially in Egypt. Whether it is camels, donkeys, horses, many animals are subjected to human violence. It is rare that during our trip to Egypt we find activities where animals are treated with respect. Unfortunately we cannot blame only the locals, it is also the fault of the tourists who do not pay attention or are not aware of the subject. If tourists would stop going to places that don't take care of animals, there wouldn't be this kind of problem anymore.

To try to remedy this and out of love for the animals, the co-director Ganun first saved two horses from being abused. After providing them with the necessary care and with a lot of patience, the horses regained their health. Then Ganun had the idea to expand his stables to save other horses and offer rides in the respect of the animal, something that is rare in Egypt. And that's how the Horses and Hieroglyphs adventure began !
Since the main stables are not big enough to accommodate all the survivors, Ganun built other stables a little further away where the still sick horses are being rehabilitated. To fully enjoy their second life, they had a huge meadow at their disposal which unfortunately caught fire last week. We are now looking for a place where the horses can play in the open air to regain their strength.
The horses in the cavalry are horses that have been given a second chance. They are now in good shape and are happy to ride with the tourists !
The last horses arrived from Cairo, about a month ago. We can already see an evolution of their health.

So please, when you want to practice an activity with animals, whether at home or on vacation abroad, find out about the structure and how they treat their animals. Because even at our level we can act to stop animal abuse. It is therefore by stopping frequenting companies that have no respect for the animal that we can advance this fight.
By booking at Horses and Hieroglyphs, part of your money goes into a fund that will be used to build a Horses & Hieroglyphs Charity Clinic on the West Bank of Luxor that would provide affordable veterinary services to anyone in need of them. Because this kind of establishment is mostly found on the East Bank. Most of the farms and animals are located on the West Bank, and transportation to the East Bank is expensive and complicated.
I hope this article has made you aware of the damage that human beings can do but that we, even on our level, can do something.
Thank’s for reading !
